Swansea University offers the BA in Early Childhood Studies with Early Years Practitioner Status (EYPS). This undergraduate course specialises in the first five years of a child’s life, focusing on the pivotal role of early childhood on a person’s life. The programme is aimed for those who are passionate about working with children during their crucial early years in a variety of possible career paths.Course Content: Throughout the course, students are instilled with deep understanding about children's development and learning, focusing on the first five years of life. They study early language, play, and creativity, relationships and the importance of the physical environment. The curriculum integrates academic study with work-based learning over a range of modules.Key Modules: Some of the key modules in the course include 'Introduction to Safeguarding and Child Protection', 'Understanding Child Development', 'Reflecting on Professional Practice' and 'Creativity and the Arts in Early Childhood'. In the final year, students undertake a dissertation that enables them to pursue an area of interest in depth.Accreditations: On successful completion of the BA Early Childhood EYRF pathway, students will have gained Early Years Practitioner Status (EYPS) which is recognised by Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) alongside their degree. This pathway and the award of EYPS are accredited by Social Care Wales.Future Careers: With the BA (Hons) Early Childhood course, students can opt for a variety of roles including becoming a Family Support Worker, Early Years Teacher, Social Worker, and Child Psychologist.
