BSc (Hons.) Biochemistry

The Biochemistry BSc Honours, offered by the University of Westminster, is a full-time degree program that focuses on the chemical processes and substances that drive every cell and organism in the biological world. The course provides a deep understanding utilising a manageable blend of traditional teaching methods and modern e-learning techniques. Course Content: The course dedicatedly covers the fundamental aspects of life at the molecular level. This includes understanding biochemical and molecular biology techniques, the molecular mechanisms of cell function, the principles of endocrinology, metabolism and genetic and biochemical aspects of disease processes. The course is structured to introduce basic concepts in the first year, provide more detailed understanding in the second year, and focuses on research-led material in the final year.Key Modules: The course consists of several key modules such as Organic and Biological Chemistry, Cell Biology and Immunology, Structural Biochemistry and Metabolism, Bioinformatics and Study Skills and Employability. During the course, students work on a specialised research project and can opt for a 12-month industrial placement to gain practical experience.Accreditations: The Biochemistry BSc Honours course is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology for the purpose of meeting, in part, the academic and experience requirement for the Membership and Chartered Biologist (CBiol).Future Careers: The course prepares graduates for a range of careers such as medical and laboratory science, pharmacological research, food manufacture, environmental health and forensic science.
