BSc (Hons.) Building Surveying

The Building Surveying BSc(Hons) course at the University of Brighton provides students with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed to make a difference in the evolving world of building surveying. Students will explore the scientific, design, technical, economic and managerial aspects of the profession, and study modules that focus on building and construction technology, contract law, building pathology and property law.Course Content: In the first year, students will cover the basics, learning about building and construction technology, contract law and CDM regulations, with visits to construction sites. During the second year, students will experience a varied module makeup, taking on more responsibility for their own learning through project work. Final year students will complete surveys and write reports in groups, use CAD software to produce drawings and work with a mentor.Key Modules: Some of the main modules included in the course cover Building and Construction Technology, Commercial Management, Property Law, and Building Pathology.Accreditations: The course is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) so, providing they pass the Assessment of Professional Competence, graduates can progress to become Chartered Surveyors, a globally recognized professional qualification.Future Careers: Successful completion of the course can pave the way to a wide range of careers in the construction industry, such as Chartered Building Surveyor, Project Manager, Building Control Officer, Building Pathologist, Asset Manager, and Historic Buildings Inspector.
