Brighton University offers a Graphic Design BA (Hons) course that provides students the knowledge, skills and understanding required to practice professionally as a graphic designer. The course encourages students to become creative practitioners and independent learners who can critically evaluate their work in relation to theoretical and technical contexts.Course Content: The course content is based on a structured, student-centred approach that builds critical understanding skills, promotes independent learning, and develops students' identity as designers. Students will be expected to engage with complex contemporary issues, including sustainability, globalisation, inclusivity, social responsibility and ethics. The first year introduces key concepts and processes in graphic design and encourages exploration and experimentation. The second and third year provides more depth, allowing individual specialisation.Key Modules: Important modules include Design Process, Typographic Detailing, Experimental Format, Observational and Sequential Drawing, Animation and Interactive Design, Signage and Wayfinding, and Sustainable Graphic Design.Accreditations: This course is not specifically accredited by an external body, but it is recognised by the Design and Art Directors (D&AD) and students are eligible to join the International Society of Typographic Designers (ISTD).Future Careers: Graduates of this course can expect to enter careers in graphic design within a broad range of sectors – from multimedia design in television and the internet, to traditional publishing and print media.
