MA Social Work

The Social Work MA course offered by Coventry University is a postgraduate program rooted in principles of social justice. It is dedicated to providing students with an understanding of social work practice, policy, and law in order to tackle social injustice and to safeguard those who are most vulnerable in society. This course can be completed in a full-time capacity over a period of 2 years and has a September intake.Course Content: The course focuses on knowledge and skills acquisition in relation to the domains of social work practice. It provides an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the values and ethics of social work, the context and culture of social work practice and the influence and implications of social policy. The curriculum is based on the Standards of Proficiency (SoPs) prescribed by Social Work England, hence the students will become acquainted with the professional, legal, and ethical requirements for social work in England.Key Modules: The course comprises of four shared modules - Communication and Relationships, Evidence Informed Practice, Safeguarding and Professional, Legal and Ethical Studies. It also includes a series of specialist modules that focus on specific aspects of social work such as Child Observation, Relationship-based Practice with Adults, Family Law and Court Skills, and Integrated Assessment.Accreditations: Upon successful completion of the course, students are eligible to register with Social Work England, the regulator for social workers in England.Future Careers: This course sets up graduates for a range of rewarding careers in social work. These can span across voluntary, independent, and statutory sectors, and within various organizations such as local authorities, NHS trusts, education providers, and charities.
