BA (Hons) Prosthetics and Special Effects Design

The Prosthetics and Special Effects Design BA course offered by Solent University is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to embark on a career in special effects and prosthetics design. The course offers a balanced combination of practical workshops, traditional lectures, individual projects as well as collaborative challenges. Students have the opportunity to master the key techniques used in the industry such as life casting, sculpting, silicone prosthetics application, moulding, and airbrushing.Course Content: The course begins with an exploration of fundamental prosthetics and special effects design processes, principles, and techniques. Following this, students explore the industry's various facets including prosthetics, props, masks, animatronics and full-body costumes. Finally, the course culminates with a final major practical project, where students will be expected to implement all the skills and knowledge gained throughout the course.Key Modules: Some of the key modules in the program include 'Introduction to Prosthetics and Special Effects Design,' '3D Design Techniques,' 'Applied Prosthetics Design, 'Portfolio Development,' and ‘Character Concept and Development.' Future Careers: Students graduating from this course can look forward to a variety of career opportunities in realms such as film, theatre, television, exhibition, retail display, or model making.
