The BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science with Foundation Year course at the University of Bolton is a four-year full-time program. It is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the scientific basis of human health, illness and recovery. The foundation year allows those who do not meet the traditional entry requirements still a chance to succeed in this field.Course Content: The course covers the structure and function of the human body, the cause, diagnosis and treatment of disease, and laboratory techniques used in biomedical science. Topics include Anatomy and Physiology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathology, and Molecular Biology.Key Modules: Key units are covered not only during the foundation year, but are spread across all four years, these include: Introduction to Biomedical Science, Advances in Biomedical Science, Human Disease, Laboratory Management, Extended Literature Review and Research Project.Accreditations: This course is accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) and approved by the Royal Society of Biology (RSB). The course offers the academic components necessary for the state registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Biomedical Scientist.Future Careers: The program prepares students for a variety of careers. These include roles in NHS laboratories, research and development, public health or scientific writing.
