BA English & History

The English and History BA is a full-time undergraduate course offered by the University of Leicester. The course involves extensive exploration of English and History – two of the most profound and inherently human creative innovations. It helps students gain a better understanding about the past and get a unique perspective by combining the study of history and English. Also, students will have the chance to choose their own path of learning by selecting the modules that suit their interests the most.Course Content: The course mainly focuses on studies like Literature in English, From Rome to the Renaissance: An Introduction to the Medieval World, The Making of the Modern World: An Introduction to Modern History, etc. On a typical day, students might find themselves engrossed in a poem by Keats, comparing various versions of the Arthurian legend or discussing why the French Revolution occurred.Key Modules: The curriculum is spread over the course of three years. In the first year, students will study 'Reading English', 'Introduction to History' and a choice of elective modules. In the second year, modules like 'The Victorian Century', 'The Age of Shakespeare', 'The Age of Extremes: Europe 1914-1945' etc. can be chosen. The final year includes modules like 'English Literature Special Subject', 'History Special Subject', 'English Dissertation' and 'History Dissertation'.
