BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy

The Occupational Therapy course offered by the University of Cumbria is a full-time degree that aims to equip students with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge required to positively impact people's lives. The course has a strong emphasis on practical experience, allowing students to build professional confidence through placements, while also offering a solid grounding in the critical appraisal of occupational therapy practice, evidence-based approach, professional reasoning and research.Course Content: The course provides a comprehensive understanding of the holistic approach to health and wellbeing, enabling students to develop the skills necessary to promote the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities. It also promotes an understanding of the importance of occupations in life, and how to enable individuals to engage.Key Modules: Key modules in the course include Introduction to Occupational Therapy and Occupational Sciences; Human function and Dysfunction; Introduction to Sociology and Psychology; Research and Professional Practice; Occupational Therapy Processing Clinical Reasoning; and Implementing the Occupational Therapy process in practice.Accreditations: The course is accredited by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) and approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), making graduates eligible to apply for registration to practice as an Occupational Therapist in the UK.Future Careers: Graduates of the Occupational Therapy degree have a diverse range of career options. These can include positions in acute hospitals, rehabilitation, chronic disease management, mental health services, aged care, pediatrics, community health, and independent living centers.
