The Outdoor Leadership undergraduate course offered by the University of Cumbria provides students with practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed to thrive in the outdoor industry. The educators have frontline experience in outdoor leadership and emphasis is laid on 'learning by doing'. Course Content: This course involves practical skills-based learning along with theoretical study. The first year provides foundational knowledge, the second year students gain more practical skills, undertake an expedition and complete a professional placement, while the third year offers a more advanced understanding of outdoor leadership. Key Modules: Some of the core modules include Principles of Outdoor Leadership, Outdoor Activities and Skill Acquisition, Research and Fieldwork Skills, Practical Application of Outdoor Leadership Tactics, and Management Skills for Outdoor Leadership. Accreditations: The course is designed in alignment with the Institute for Outdoor Learning’s ‘Pathway to Professionalism’.
