BSc (Hons) Biotechnology

The Biotechnology BSc (Hons) course at Liverpool John Moores University introduces students to the fast-moving, multidisciplinary world of biotechnology. The course provides a detailed understanding of the processes used by industry to design, manufacture, and deliver products and drug therapies to market. It develops knowledge, expertise and, importantly, practical skills in advanced molecular techniques. Course Content: The course is designed to provide a firm understanding of the fundamental aspects of biotechnology, including molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics and gene manipulation, techniques for bio-analysis, bioinformatics and cells and systems. In addition, it presents advanced research methods for data analysis, which will be useful for future research or analysis work. Key Modules: Some of the prominent subjects in this course are Cell biology and genetics, Life: from molecules to cells, Biochemistry and molecular biology, Biological chemistry and metabolism, Organic chemistry and Spectroscopy, Bacteria, viruses and immunity, and Techniques for bio-analysis. Future Careers: The course prepares students for a variety of careers, including working in research and development departments of pharmaceutical, diagnostic and biotechnology companies, in health services and environmental agencies or further studies in the field of Biotechnology.
