The Health Psychology course at the University of Aberdeen is a full-time, one-year programme that aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the theories, concepts, and methods of Health Psychology. The course is designed to help students develop knowledge and skills to manage health and illness in a way that focuses on the unique psychological aspects.Course Content: The program focuses on the study and application of psychological theories, research, and methodologies in the health context. It covers key topics such as understanding, predicting, and changing health behaviour; managing stress and chronic illness; healthcare communication; health inequalities; and health ethics. Students are also expected to complete a research project.Key Modules: The key modules covered in the course include Health Psychology in context; understanding, predicting and changing health behaviour; managing illness; professional issues in health psychology; and research methods in Psychology. The students also have to work on a supervised research project in health psychology.Accreditations: The programme is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and upon successful completion of the course, students will be eligible to apply for Stage 2 training in Health Psychology.Future Careers: After the successful completion of this course, students can go on to have a career in health-related government departments, health promotion, health intervention administration and delivery, psychological research, teaching.
