BSc Zoology

The Bachelor of Science in Zoology course at the University of Aberdeen provides students with a deep understanding of animal life and evolution, their function, and their role in the ecosystem. The course combines laboratory sessions, fieldwork, and seminars, supplemented by independent study and research opportunities. Course Content: The Zoology programme covers a diverse range of topics including animal physiology, behaviour, ecology, population, conservation biology and evolution. In the first year, students are provided with a broad introduction to biological sciences. The second year builds on the first, incorporating courses in ecology, comparative physiology and a choice from a range of elective courses. The third and fourth year sees further specialisation, where students can opt to study advanced courses such as marine biology and mammalian biology.Key Modules: Zoology students will study modules such as Biology of Organisms, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Introduction to Biological Diversity, Comparative Physiology, Ecology: From individuals to Ecosystems, as well as Marine Biology and Animal Behaviour.Accreditations: The Zoology degree programme is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology for the purpose of meeting, in part, the academic and experience requirement for the Membership and Chartered Biologist (CBiol).Future Careers: Graduates with a Zoology degree from University of Aberdeen can pursue a wide range of professions. These include working as ecologists, conservation officers, aviary and wildlife specialists, marine biologists, and research scientists in areas such as pharmaceuticals and agriculture.
