The BEng in Civil and Structural Engineering course offered by the University of Aberdeen is designed to provide students with a broad understanding of the strategic and sustainable issues in civil engineering, as well as the creative problem-solving abilities to design complex structures. During this course, students will gain the skills to design and build the world around us, starting from buildings, bridges, and tunnels to flood defences, water supply systems, and road and rail networks.Course Content: The course consists of a mix of lectures, tutorials, and practical work. Students will spend around 12-14 hours each week in lectures and tutorials, with an equal amount of time in practical work. From the third year onwards, students will also be offered a wide selection of optional courses, giving them the flexibility to focus their studies on specific areas of interest.Key Modules: Key modules of the course include mathematics, engineering materials, geotechnics, fluid mechanics, engineering modular design, structural materials and design, transportation engineering, and many more. Final year students will also undertake a major individual project to demonstrate their learning.Accreditations: The BEng Civil and Structural Engineering degree is accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) and the Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE).Future Careers: Graduates of BEng Civil and Structural Engineering can find employment in a wide range of sectors such as international construction, environmental agencies, government departments, and consulting engineering firms. Many graduates also embark on further study or training to become chartered engineers. For more information on this course, please visit the official course page.
