BSc Conservation Biology

The Conservation Biology degree at the University of Aberdeen aims to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the biodiversity, values, threats and measures of the environment. Throughout this course, students will gain real-world insights and knowledge on how to conserve the planet’s incredible biodiversity.Course Content: The course content is rooted in research and offers a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental biological principles relative to biodiversity and conservation. The programme includes study on genetics, species, populations and ecosystems. It explores how anthropogenic and natural factors impact on the environment, and the development of preventative measures for environmental protection. It also covers scientific research and analytical skills, competencies that are pertinent in aquatic and terrestrial habits as well as tropical, temperate and marine ecosystems.Key Modules: Some of the key modules in this programme include Biology, Organismal Diversity, Ecology, and Landscape and People. In the later years of study, students will focus on Conservation and Biodiversity, Techniques and Practices in Ecological and Environmental Research, and Integrative Ecological Solutions.Accreditations: This BSc degree programme is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology following successful completion of a professional placement year or an independent research project.Future Careers: Graduates in Conservation Biology from the University of Aberdeen make a creative impact and excel in their chosen paths. They may find work in conservation biology, biodiversity management, environmental consulting, further study and research, or education.
