The Primary Education program at the University of Aberdeen is a four-year course designed to prepare students for a rewarding career in primary teaching. The program combines both theory and practical training to ensure that graduates are fully equipped with the necessary skills to deliver high-quality education to children aged 3-12 years.Course Content: The curriculum for this program covers developmental and social aspects of education, broadening the understanding of subjects and their interrelationships across the curriculum. The program integrates both practical and theoretical learning to ensure that students are well equipped with all the necessary skills needed for a career in primary education. It offers students the opportunity to develop, take risks, explore, enhance and innovate pedagogy in the classroom with the support of highly experienced tutors. Key Modules: The course covers core subjects including Maths, English, Sciences, and Social Subjects. Students will also explore Specialist Areas such as Additional Support Needs, Gaelic Medium Teaching, Early Years, and Digital Literacy. Parents, Family, and Community, Exploring Teacher Professionalism, Curriculum and Assessment, and Work Based Placement are among the other key modules of the program. Accreditations: Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive a Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree and will be eligible for provisional registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS), which is mandatory for all teachers.Future Careers: Graduates of this program will have a strong foundation for a career in primary education.
