BA Language & Linguistics

The University of Aberdeen offers a joint programme of Language and Linguistics that will provide you with a deep understanding of human communication, the structure of language, its evolution over time and its use in various social settings. The course is a single honour degree enabling you to gain a good grounding in both modern languages and linguistics.Course Content: The course duration is 4 years full-time. The first two years broaden your knowledge of language and linguistics where you have the chance to study all aspects of human language, including sounds (phonetics, phonology), words (morphology), sentences (syntax), and meaning (semantics). In third and fourth years, you have the option to specialise in areas including socio-linguistics, psycho-linguistics, the history of English, language acquisition and discourse analysis.Key Modules: The key modules of the program include courses on Phonetics and Phonology, the Structure of English, Sociolinguistics, History of English, and Discourse Analysis.Future Careers: The course provides you with skills that are attractive to employers and relevant for a wide variety of careers.
