The Music Therapy course at UWE Bristol is a programme designed to provide skills training in the areas of psychology, music, and medicine. It aims to equip students with the ability to use music therapeutically to support people's emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing. This course encourages students to develop their musicality and personal growth, while also promoting the value of group experience in learning. Course Content: This course is split into three aspects: academic/clinical, professional development, and musical development. The course features a combination of theoretical and practical sessions, including individual tutorials, lectures, workshops, and seminars. The teaching is supplemented with a clinical placement to enable students to gain real-life experiential training.Key Modules: Some of the core and optional modules include Music Therapy Theory and Practice, Research in Health and Social Care, Clinical Improvisation, Music Therapy and Autism, and Psycho-dynamic Perspectives in Health Care.Accreditations: Upon successful completion of the course, students can register with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and seek employment as professional Music Therapists.Future Careers: Graduates of this course go on to work as independent music therapists, work in private practice or take up roles in schools, NHS, social services, healthcare, community settings, and other organisations.
