BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering

The Civil Engineering course offered by the University of the West of England (UWE) is designed to equip students with the creative problem solving and project management skills necessary to operate in complex civil engineering situations. It is a full-time undergraduate course that runs for three to four years.Course Content: The course delivers a practical focus and involves the use of industry-standard software. The curriculum includes lessons on principles like concrete design and highway engineering, fluid mechanics, structural analysis, and geotechnics. Students will also gain experience in laboratory work, computer-based activities, teamwork, project work, and fieldwork. Design makes up a large part of the assessment throughout the course.Key Modules: Some of the key modules that students will undertake during the course include Structural Analysis and Design, Construction Materials and Geotechnics, Civil Engineering Surveying and Drawing, Fluid Mechanics, and Integrated Design Project among others. Accreditations: The course is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM), which includes the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers, Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, and the Institute of Highway Engineers. Obtaining a degree from a JBM-accredited course is the first step to becoming a Chartered Engineer.Future Careers: Graduates from this course are well-prepared for careers in a variety of sectors related to civil engineering, including construction, design, transportation, and the environment.
