The Applied Biological Sciences course at the University of Stirling offers a unique approach to biology that prepares students for the future by integrating theory with practical skills. Through this course, students will gain an understanding of biological processes, principles, and techniques that can be applied to various environmental and health issues.Course Content: The course focuses on the applied aspect of biological sciences, promoting understanding of environmental and health-based issues. Students will discover the diversity of biological sciences, exploring areas such as animal biology, environmental biology and microbiology. The curriculum promotes a hands-on approach, with students taking part in field trips, lab work, and research projects.Key Modules: In the first two years, students gain a broad understanding of biological sciences through foundational modules, including Cell Biology, Physiology and Pharmacology, and Ecology and Environmental Science. In the final years, specialization options are available, where students can choose from advanced modules, such as Molecular Techniques, Current Issues in Conservation and Behavioural Ecology.Accreditations: The course is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology for the purpose of meeting, in part, the academic and experience requirement for the Membership and Chartered Biologist (CBiol).Future Careers: Graduates of the Applied Biological Sciences course can go on to pursue a wide range of careers. These include jobs in health and environmental consultancies, research and development roles in pharmaceutical companies, ecologists in environmental organizations, and more.
