The MA History, Power, and Identity course at the University of Essex is a full-time program that takes one year to complete. The course is offered by the university's Department of History, and it explores the methods historians use to reconstruct the past and critically examines the theoretical and conceptual foundations of historical research. Course Content: This Masters program delves into the roles and relationships of power and identity, focusing on areas such as gender, class, ethnicity, war and peace, and migrations. Studying through both lectures and seminars, students will investigate how power is distributed in society and how identities are constructed and contested in the social world.Key Modules: Some key core modules that students may study throughout the course include Historiography, Methods, and Interpretations; The Making of Modern Identity; War and Society in Twentieth Century Europe; and American Slavery. In addition, students will undertake a dissertation which allows them to dive deeper into a topic according to their interests.Future Careers: The transferable skills that students develop during their study time make them suitable for a wide range of careers. Some alumni have pursued careers in journalism, education, law, publishing, business, and politics, among other fields.
