The Prosthetics and Orthotics course at the University of Strathclyde is a highly specialised and multidisciplinary four years BSc (Hons) program. This course offers a unique educational experience with the combination of design, materials science, human anatomy, physiology and biomechanics.Course Content: The first two years of study consist of introductory modules in human anatomy, biomechanics, material science and design principles. This foundational knowledge is further developed in year three with the application of clinical practice. In year four, students undertake research projects alongside professional studies or advanced technical design and manufacturing modules.Key Modules: The key modules of this course are Applied Anatomy and Physiology for Prosthetics and Orthotics, Applied Mechanics 1 and 2, Quality Management in Prosthetics & Orthotics, Clinical Practice and Prosthetics and Orthotics Studies.Accreditations: The course is fully accredited and continuously monitored by the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics. Graduates are entitled to apply for full professional registration with the Health and Care Professions Council and membership of the British Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists.Future Careers: The course boasts a 95% employment rate within six months of graduation. Graduates typically work in NHS Trusts, private firms, international organisations or continue in further research and development roles.
