MEng Product Design Engineering

The Product Design Engineering MEng course offered by The University of Strathclyde aims to equip students with creative design skills and engineering prowess. This fascinating combination of disciplines aims to provide a well-rounded understanding and ability set, shaping the designers and engineers of the future who will be adept at creating and engineering products that address real-world challenges.Course Content: This comprehensive program covers a plethora of areas over a five-year study period. There is a focus on both mechanical engineering and on the aesthetics and ergonomics of product design. Year 1 introduces participants to the fundamentals of engineering and design. As the years progress, students delve deeper into the complexities of materials and manufacturing, alongside research and design methodology. In the final two years, learners develop specialized knowledge around engineering mechanics and industrial design.Key Modules: The course contains several notable modules. These are Design and Manufacture, Product Design Engineering Design, Materials and Manufacturing Technology, Mechanics, Business Technology, and Engineering Mechanics.Accreditations: This course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of meeting the educational requirements for Further Learning for registration as a Chartered Engineer. Candidates must hold a CEng accredited BEng/BSc (Hons) undergraduate first degree to comply with full CEng registration requirements.Future Careers: Graduates of this course embark on a variety of career paths. Many elect to join design consultancies or enter manufacturing companies. There are also opportunities in fields such as marketing, management, and public service.
