The BSc in Prosthetics & Orthotics at the University of Strathclyde is a full-time 4 years Undergraduate Course. This course allows students to make practical use of theoretical principles and demonstrate initiative and personal responsibility in the design and fabrication of prostheses (artificial limbs) and orthoses (braces, splints). It is a hands-on course where students will be in contact with patients from the first semester.Course Content: The course structure includes core classes in Prosthetics & Orthotics, alongside studying biomedical sciences and behavior and health. Additionally, the course also includes mandatory work placements in a variety of different prosthetic and orthotic clinical settings. Key Modules: Some of the core modules in this course include Biomedical Engineering, Anatomy & Physiology, Clinical Practice among others. Modules like Prosthetic & Orthotic Design & Manufacture, Professional Practice, and Prosthetic & Orthotic Science form the key components of the course. Accreditations: The BSc Prosthetics & Orthotics is accredited by the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) as a Category 1 Prosthetics and Orthotics education programme and by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Future Careers: The degree opens many opportunities in various sectors such as National Health Service (NHS), private sector companies, equipment manufacturing, and research departments.
