The History and Law Undergraduate course at the University of Strathclyde provides students with an understanding of the historic development of the law and its institutions. Each student also gains an understanding of the main institutions, principles, and rules of the Scottish legal system. This includes jurisdiction over people and property within Scotland, the courts and court system, civil and criminal procedure, and the various forms of redress available in Scottish law. Course Content: Year 1 of the course covers topics such as historical study, introduction to legal systems, torts, and trusts, as well as types of actions and review in the law courts. In Year 2, students study Scots laws, rights, and evidence, British historical study, and the history of the United States. In Year 3 and 4, students choose from a range of optional subjects. Key Modules: Some of the key modules covered in this course include Historical Study: Birth of the Modern World, Evidence & Procedure, Introduction to Legal Systems & Study, Torts and Trusts, Crime and Consumer Law, amongst others.
