The BA in Social Work course at the University of Strathclyde is a full-time undergraduate program that prepares students for a professional career in social work. The course is acknowledged widely for its excellent preparation for the diverse demands of the profession. Course Content: The course is divided into four years, each focusing on different segments of social work. The program combines university-based learning with two assessed periods of practice learning. The first two years introduces students to key concepts and theories of contemporary social work practice. The last two years expand this learning with a closer focus on areas of social work practice with particular groups. Key Modules: Some key topics covered within the course include social work roles and tasks, social work in a global context, professional social work practice and human development and social environment. The course also offers a choice of subjects in Years 3 and 4, allowing students to specialise their studies. Accreditations: The course has been approved by the Scottish Social Services Council and the Health & Care Professions Council, meaning that on successful completion, you’ll be eligible to register as a social worker.Future Careers: After successful completion of the course, students can practice in a variety of settings, including child and adult protection, residential child care, criminal justice social work, work with offenders and work with drug and alcohol misuse.
