The Literature and Culture postgraduate course at the University of Salford explores the interfaces and crossovers between literature and culture. It helps you develop the skills to critically engage with literature’s relationships with some of today’s key cultural issues and questions. The interdisciplinary nature of this course allows you to explore literature as it intersects with an array of different areas such as ethnicity, gender, and post-colonialism.Course Content: The program’s content is designed to enable you to examine how literature and culture interact and how this interaction affects both the written word and the social context in which it is written. The curriculum is crafted to provide an understanding of a wide range of genres and literatures in their historical contexts, as well as the relationship of film to literature. Key Modules: The core modules of the course are Literary Research: Theory, Practice and Reflection, Gender and Sexualities, and Postcolonialism, Culture and Identity. Optional modules which students can choose from include Film, Culture and Identity, Gothic and Horror, and Reading Children's Literature. Future Careers: With the critical and transferable skills obtained during the course, graduates are well equipped for a range of careers in marketing, public relations, education, project management or for progressing to a PhD.
