The BSc Paramedic Science at Glasgow Caledonian University is a three-year full-time course designed to prepare students for a career as a paramedic. The well-structured program combines theory and authentic paramedic practice simulations to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to provide out-of-hospital care.Course Content: The program consists of six semesters of comprehensive study. In the first year, students will understand the foundations of paramedical science. The second year specifically focuses on enhancing decision-making skills, knowledge about medications and fluids, and in-depth information about complex medical, trauma, and social care situations. Lastly, the final year enables students to convert knowledge and skills into practice. Students are also required to write a dissertation related to paramedic science.Key Modules: The primary modules of this program include: Foundations of Paramedic Science; Applied Pathophysiology and Pharmacology for Paramedic Practice; Learning Out of Hospital Care and Medical Imaging; and Research for Paramedic Science.Accreditations: This program is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), qualifying its graduates as registered paramedics. The program is also endorsed by the College of Paramedics.Future Careers: Graduates can look forward to a career in the ambulance service or in areas including event medicine, humanitarian aid, the military, and offshore work.
