The BSc (Hons) Criminology with Law course at the University of Huddersfield brings together fascinating areas of criminology and law to enable you to study crime and criminal behaviour from a sociological and legal perspective. The course is designed to help you explore how crimes are defined, why people commit them, and how society responds.Course Content: This course comprises of various modules that will allow you to explore topics such as crimes, criminology, and the legal system. The introductory year will give you a grounding in key concepts and debates in criminology, and can also contribute to choosing law as a specialisation. In your second and third years, you're offered more options including subjects on policing and crime prevention, youth crime, and victimology, among others. You can also choose your own study path during your third year by opting for a dissertation or applied criminology, where you’ll undertake a work placement and use this experience to reflect critically on the relationship between theoretical and practical aspects of criminology.Key Modules: Some of the key modules in this course include 'Criminal Justice and Penal Process', 'Contemporary Issues in Criminology', 'Policing and Social Control', 'Crime and Conflict in Communities', and 'Theoretical Criminology'. You also have the option to take elective modules such as 'Insanity, Identity and Crime', 'Miscarriages of Justice' and 'Race and Crime'. Accreditations: Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive a BSc (Hons) in Criminology with Law awarded by the University of Huddersfield.Future Careers: Graduates from the Criminology with Law course have pursued a variety of careers such as probation officers, police officers, prison officers, roles within the Crime Prosecution Service, youth workers, and other roles within the criminal justice system.
