The Medical Art postgraduate course at the University of Dundee is a unique programme that combines the traditional disciplines of anatomy and medical science with technologies that facilitate learning and understanding of the subject. On completing this course, students are equipped with the skills required to produce visually accurate and scientifically informed portrayals of the human body, illnesses, and surgical procedures.Course Content: The course provides a blended learning approach with a mix of face-to-face and online learning. Students are provided with a comprehensive foundation in human anatomy, medical science, and medical ethics. There's also in-depth training in relevant contemporary software, and the development of observational art skills in the fields of human figure drawing, painting, sculpture, and prosthetic making.Key Modules: This programme consists of six modules in total, including ‘Introduction to Medical Sciences for Artists’, ‘2D/3D digital Art Processes’, ‘Conceptual and Life Drawing’, ‘Digital Sculpting’, ‘Anatomy for Artists’ and a final research project culminating in the preparation of a professional portfolio.Accreditations: The programme has been approved by the Institute of Medical Illustrators (IMI) and students will receive a certificate endorsed by both the University of Dundee and the Institute of Medical Illustrators on completion.Future Careers: The career opportunities are broad within the medical, educational and the commercial sectors.
