The BSc (Hons) Psychology and Sport Studies course at the University of Derby is a combination of two complementary disciplines and offers students a framework to understand the formative aspects of human behavior and the influence of physical activity. This course provides students with a broad understanding of psychology and sports while equipping them with a multitude of transferable skills, such as solid research capabilities and the ability to work with diverse groups.Course Content: The course content includes exploring both Psychology and Sport Studies in-depth. In Psychology, areas covered include social and developmental psychology, biological and cognitive psychology, and individual differences. In Sports Studies, areas covered include the history of modern sport, global sport, and society and current issues in sport and popular culture.Key Modules: Students have the chance to choose certain modules according to their career aspirations. Key modules include Research Methods in Psychology, Biological and Cognitive Psychology, The History of Modern Sport, the Sociable Body, Global Sport and Culture, and Contemporary Issues in Sport and Popular Culture.Accreditations: The Psychology aspect of the course is accredited by the British Psychological Society. This accreditation is a prerequisite for becoming a Chartered Psychologist and gaining Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership status.Future Careers: The course prepares graduates for a variety of career options in fields such as coaching, sports development, health promotion, teaching, and further study within psychology.
