Beng Electrical and Electronic Engineering

The Electrical and Electronic Engineering BEng (Hons) undergraduate degree at the University of Derby is designed to equip students with the skills and understanding required to engage in creative problem-solving and design. The course combines theory with hands-on application, including work placements and real-world projects, encouraging students to bring original thinking to the challenges society faces.Course Content: The course offers a blend of practical and theoretical knowledge in electrical and electronic engineering, covering areas such as circuit theory, digital systems, and power systems. It incorporates an exploration of programming languages, software design and electronics, developing students' skills in problem-solving, project management and team working. It also allows students to study optional modules based on their specific areas of interest, and undertake a major independent study in their final year.Key Modules: Key modules on the programme include: Electrical and Electronic Principles, Engineering Design and Workshop Technology, and Global Engineering Professionalism in semester one. Computer Programming for Engineers, Engineering Mathematics, and Analogue Electronics for semester two of the first stage. The third stage consists of Further Engineering Mathematics and Circuit Theory, Signal and Systems, and Digital and Embedded Systems. The final stage includes Advanced Engineering Design and Innovation, Advanced Power Systems and Machines, Electrical Energy Systems and Control, Industrial Control Systems, and an Independent Study module.Accreditations: This course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) ensuring the content is current and professionally relevant.
