BA/BSc Hons English and Psychology

The English and Psychology Joint Honours degree at the University of Derby combines two intriguing fields of study to provide a rich and diverse educational experience. This unique course allows students to feed their passion for English whilst developing an understanding of human thought processes and behaviours with a psychological perspective.Course Content: Students will imbibe skills of critical analysis, argumentation, presentation, and independent research, particularly through English modules. On the other hand, they will grasp the foundations of psychology including developmental, social, biological, cognitive, and individual differences. The English course is 50% coursework while the Psychology aspect is a combination of exams, coursework, and online activities. Key Modules: Key modules for the English course include Historical Contexts, Literary Analysis, Thinking About Genre: Drama, Thinking About Genre: the Novel. For Psychology, modules include Introduction to Developmental and Social Psychology, Introduction to Biological Behavioural and Cognitive Psychology and Historical and Conceptual Issues in Psychology.Accreditations: The Psychology course is accredited by The British Psychological Society (BPS) as conferring eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Chartered membership, provided the minimum standard of qualification of second class honours is achieved.Future Careers: With this Joint Honours degree, students can pursue various career opportunities such as Teaching, Journalism, Publishing, HR, Management and Counselling.
