The Special Educational Needs and Disability BA (Hons) course at the University of Derby is designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the policies, procedures and theoretical perspectives that support children, young adults and people with diverse needs. The course also offers a chance to gain hands-on experience in Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) settings.Course Content: This full-time course is split across three stages, each lasting one year. Across these stages, students will explore various aspects of Special Educational Needs and Disability including educational inclusion, strategies for teaching and learning, challenging behaviour and social and emotional development, partnership work with parents and multi-disciplinary teams, and more. Key Modules: The course includes a variety of modules such as Understanding & Supporting Behaviour, Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD), Autism Spectrum (AS), Disability Studies, and Mental Health in Childhood and Youth. There's also a module on Professional Development which includes a placement in an SEND setting.Future Careers: On successful completion of this course, students can progress to a range of careers in education and care industries.
