BA Hons Journalism

The Journalism BA (Hons) degree at the University of Derby provides an in-depth understanding of journalism in a digital age, focusing on news in the digital multimedia landscape, with a blend of practical and theoretical study. Students get the chance to build a strong portfolio of work and engage with the industry through placement opportunities.Course Content: This course provides comprehensive training in multimedia journalism, where students study shorthand, law, public affairs, writing and presentation techniques. The emphasis is on "learning by doing," with practical sessions involving Court reporting, local council meetings, press conferences and interviewing. Students also undertake a work placement to get realistic insights into the working environment of a journalist.Key Modules: Some of the key modules include News Gathering, Writing and Reporting, Media Discourse, Documentary: Theory and Practice, Global Journalism and Media Genres and many others. Accreditations: The course is accredited by the The Broadcast Journalism Training Council (BJTC), a partnership of UK media employers, and recognised by the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ).
