The International Relations and Sociology BA (Hons) offered by The University of Derby is a joint honours programme that combines the study of international relations with the investigative study of societies. This course investigates how societies, communities, and cultures have developed, understand the global issues affecting our world and develop skills to take an active part in our changing society. Course Content: The course engages students in pressing questions of our time such as, ‘Why is there conflict and cooperation among nations?’, ‘How is society changing?’, ‘What do these trends mean for us?’. It encourages students to explore a range of contemporary issues, including populations and migration, war and terrorism, globalisation and development, and media and popular culture. Key Modules: The course offers a wide breadth of module choices including ‘Understanding International Relations’, ‘Contemporary Sociology’, ‘Global Security’, ‘People at Work’, ‘Contemporary Slavery’ and ‘Sex, Drugs and Society’. Students will also engage in a module that focuses on independent study or research project on a topic of choice. Future Careers: Graduates from this joint honours course can go on to work in a variety of fields in the public and private sectors.
