The Human Rights and International Relations postgraduate taught course at the University of Roehampton is an immersive program designed to help participants gain a critical understanding of the relationship between human rights and international relations. The course is equipped to arm students with the knowledge and skills needed to understand and critically engage with the theories, principles, and practices of human rights and international relations.Course Content: The dynamic program consists of insights into global and regional human rights systems and how they interact with international politics. Students will study and critically analyse political structures, states and non-state actors, laws, treaties and more, in an attempt to understand the complexities of global politics and its intersection with human rights. Additionally, a significant emphasis is placed on encouraging students to explore the question – to what extent is the international system equipped to address challenges concerning peace, justice, and human security?Key Modules: The course is split into a range of modules that include 'Human Rights in International Politics', 'International Security: Threats and Responses', 'The American Century and Beyond: US Foreign Policy', 'Research Methods' and more. Students also have the option to undertake a work-based learning module named 'Work Placements and Human Rights'. All these modules are designed to provide the core academic and practical skills to work in the field of human rights and international relations. Future Careers: Successful graduates can go on to make a positive impact in roles such as human rights professionals, policy-makers, diplomats, or campaign and advocacy workers at national, regional, and international levels.
