The MA Childhood and Early Year Studies at Northumbria University is designed for students who wish to pursue careers in education, social care, health, or related fields, as well as for those who are interested in research in the field of childhood and early years studies. The course provides a comprehensive understanding of children's experiences and their influences in a local and global context while offering an in-depth exploration of methodologies suitable for research with children and young people.Course Content: This course has three key aspects: exploration of contemporary debates surrounding children’s rights, experiences, and how they are understood; thorough explanation of research methodologies employed in research with children; investigation of the impact and influence of social policy from a local and international perspective. Students will examine a range of topics including child protection, ethical conduct of research, child development and engagement. Key Modules: Some of the key modules students will study during the course include ‘Informed by children’s lives’, ‘Understanding and respecting children’s rights’, ‘Researching with children’, ‘Children and social policy in context’, 'Children and Young People in Global Perspective' and a ‘Research Project’.
