The BA (Hons) Product Design course offered by Northumbria University teaches students about the breadth and depth of product design. The course offers a holistic viewpoint of the industry along with engagement in the processes, methods and activities related to the profession of product design. The course allows students to gain skills in designing, testing and refining user-centric products, as well as in managing and communicating projects.Course Content: Students study modules that help them gain knowledge about a wide range of products, technologies, participants, stakeholders, situations and contexts related to the product design industry. They learn about sketching, computer modelling, user observation, and making 3D prototypes. The course also imparts knowledge on marketing, branding, and business planning, and enables them to professionally present their ideas. Key Modules: Some of the key modules include Design for Industry, Inspirational Designing, Industrial Design, Design Methodology, and Integrated Product Development. These modules encourage students to question and redefine what products can do and enable them to produce innovative, user-centred solutions.Accreditations: This course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED). This means that students have an opportunity to gain exemptions from some of the examinations that they may be required to sit on their route to becoming recognized Engineering Designers.Future Careers: After graduating, students can work as Product Designers, Design Engineers, Interaction Designers, Information Architects, and User Experience Designers. Other job roles include Visualisation, Service Design, Design Research, Project Management, Design Consultancy and education.
