BEng (Hons) Biomedical Science

The BSc Biomedical Science course at Manchester Metropolitan University is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of the science that underpins medicine and health professions. The program equips the students with specialized skills and knowledge to explore the mechanisms of diseases, diagnose pathogens, and develop new therapies. It also allows them to carry research projects and gain practical experience in a professional lab.Course Content: The program comprises three core themes: Understanding Disease, Methods in Biomedical Science, and Professional Biomedical Scientist. Throughout course, student will be exposed to all aspects of modern day biomedical science. In Level four, the student will develop a broad understanding of biomedical science. In Level 5, the program modules allow students to explore more specialised areas. Level 6 expands on the previous level's specialist areas, with added emphasis on research.Key Modules: Some of the key modules throughout the course include; Cell Biology, Metabolism & Disease, Clinical Biochemistry, Medical Microbiology, Haematology & Transfusion Science, Pathology & Disease, Immune Response & Disease, among others. Accreditations: The BSc Biomedical Science degree is accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS). It is also approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).Future Careers: Graduates can seek employment in state-of-the-art NHS laboratories, private hospitals, Health Protection Agency and Medical Research Council laboratories.
