BA (Hons) Filmmaking

The BA Filmmaking course at Manchester Metropolitan University is a highly practical, industry-focused degree that will help students produce, direct, and screen their own cinematic pieces. It enables students to leverage the latest digital technology and explore creative and technical issues related to traditional and contemporary filmmaking processes. Students will also have the chance to work with academics who are active filmmakers and researchers as well as benefit from guest lectures from industry professionals.Course Content: The course duration is three years full-time and comprises 360 credits. In year 1, students will gain the fundamentals of filmmaking, including interpreting scripts, camera operation, editing, digital FX, location sound recording, and production management. In year 2, they will focus on documentary and drama, short film scripting, and devising and staging scenes for cinema. In the final year, students will work on their graduation film, and a set of complementary projects that demonstrate their skills and understanding.Key Modules: The course is organized into units of study. Units include: Cinematic Storytelling, Filmmaking Fundamentals, Personal Vision and the Cinema, Nonfiction Filmmaking, Drama Production for Film and Television, Contemporary Cinematic Innovations, Professional Practice, and Graduation Film.Accreditations: Courses in the Department of Media at Manchester Metropolitan University are accredited by ScreenSkills, the industry-led skills body for the UK's screen-based industries, and are included on the ScreenSkills list of industry-recognized courses.Future Careers: Graduates of this course will have industry-oriented skills in a wide range of areas, including Directing, Scriptwriting, Cinematography, Editing, and Production.
