BA (Hons.) Sports Journalism

The Sports Journalism BA course offered by Leeds Beckett University is designed to equip students with the skills necessary to cover sporting events locally, nationally, and internationally. The course offers a balance between practical and theoretical knowledge, developing multimedia competencies and the fundamentals of sports journalism. Course Content: During the three-year course, students will learn how to produce engaging reports, features and match highlights, as well as how to interview athletes and sport professionals. The curriculum also covers the relationship between sport, media and society, and the role of journalism in this synthesis. Students are also given opportunities to learn from industry guest speakers and gain work experience on live broadcasting or on the university's sports website.Key Modules: Some of the primary modules that students will undertake include Sports Journalism Practice, Racism in Sport and Society, Sports Law for Journalists, Media, Digital Sports Production, and Public Relations in Sport. Accreditations: The BA honours degree in Sports Journalism was developed in conjunction with, and is supported by, the Broadcast Journalism Training Council (BJTC). This accreditation is an indication of the course's high-quality curriculum and teaching standard.Future Careers: After completion of the course, graduates can pursue careers as sports journalists, digital and social media sports reporters, broadcast reporters, magazine feature writers, or press officers.
