The Midwifery BM (Hons) is a full-time undergraduate course offered by Bangor University. This three-year course is designed to prepare students for a career as a competent, accountable and self-regulated midwife.Course Content: The course primarily consists of 50% theory and 50% practice. The theoretical aspect includes subjects like anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and psychosocial sciences. It also covers professional issues related to Midwifery practice. The practical aspect involves gaining experience in diverse settings from hospital wards, outpatient departments, birth centres, and in the community. Key Modules: Modules in the first year include Professional Midwifery practice, Biological sciences, and Introduction to professional practice. In the second year, the focus shifts to Exemplifying Professional Midwifery Practice, Research and Enquiry in Health, and Intermediate Professional Practice. In the final year, students tackle modules that include Consolidating Professional Midwifery Practice, Complex care in pregnancy and childbirth and Developing Leadership and Innovation in Health.Accreditations: The course is approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and on successful completion, the students are eligible to register with the NMC as a qualified midwife.Future Careers: Upon completion of this course, students may pursue a career in Midwifery, either in the NHS or private healthcare. Opportunities include working in hospitals, GP surgeries, birth centres or home births.
