The BSc (Hons) Physical Geography and Oceanography course at Bangor University offers a detailed exploration of the influence of the oceans on our surroundings and the environments in the past, present and likely future. The program equips students with the skills to understand and manage some of the world's most pressing environmental problems. It is universally relevant, extremely diverse and provides a solid foundation of knowledge and experience.Course Content: This course takes a close look at our dynamic planet Earth, its structure, function, and its impact on human life. It offers a comprehensive study of the physical environment, the ocean's motions and its properties, ocean-atmosphere interactions, and the impact of climate change on the oceans and the planet. The program also includes the introduction of geographical data and information, fieldworking, earth in the cosmos, natural hazards, climate change: from data to policy, biogeography, ocean circulation and climate control, etc. Key Modules: The key modules include Year 1 sharing module, Environmental Data and Analysis, Dynamic Landscapes, Earth and Ocean Observation, and Natural Environments. Year 2 consists of Climate Change: From Data to Policy, Biodiversity and Conservation, Biogeography, Research Skills, and Physical Geography Fieldwork. In year 3, students will complete their Independent Projects along with the option to select modules from Understanding Glaciers and Glaciation, GIS & Remote Sensing, Applied Marine Biology and more.Future Careers: Graduates of this course can pursue a variety of careers including roles in Environmental Consultancy, Charity/NGO Work, Local Government, Teaching, Technical aspects of Physical Geography (GIS), Civil Service and Hydrography.
