MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering

The Electrical and Electronic Engineering MEng course at Heriot-Watt University is a full-time degree programme designed to offer an in-depth understanding of electronic and electrical engineering principles, along with practical, hands-on experience. This course is suitable for students who have a keen interest in the subject and are looking to further expand their knowledge and skillsets.Course Content: The course spans over five years and provides a variety of subjects ranging from mathematics and software engineering to robotics and image processing. In the first two years, students follow a common curriculum covering the core principles of electronic and electrical engineering. These include circuits, analysis, electronics, and mathematics. From the third year onwards, students are given the opportunity to choose subjects that align with their interests and career goals.Key Modules: Core modules in the course include Mathematics for Engineers, Digital and Software Engineering, Control, Communications and Microwave Techniques, and Power Engineering. Specialised modules include Advanced Power Engineering and Power Electronics, Drives and Applications. In the final year, students undertake a major dissertation in electronic and electrical engineering.Accreditations: The course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on behalf of the Engineering Council as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for registration as a Chartered Engineer.Future Careers: Graduate students of this program can look forward to potential careers in a vast array of industries.
