MEng Architectural Engineering

The Architectural Engineering MEng at Heriot-Watt University is a comprehensive course that combines the creativity of building design and the precision of engineering. Students will develop a deep understanding of architecture, structural engineering, and building services engineering to create buildings that make a significant contribution to our built environment. Course Content: The course allows students to learn and appreciate the interdisciplinary and integrated nature of sustainable building design and engineering over 5 years. It covers key topics such as climate change, sustainability, and energy efficiency. In addition to foundation engineering and architectural principles, students will study modules focusing on structural engineering, building performance, building services, construction management, and the business context of the construction industry.Key Modules: Some of the noteworthy modules included are Construction Technology, Introduction to Structural Design, Building Environmental Science, Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics, and Geotechnics.Accreditations: The course is accredited by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), and the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). It provides the educational base for becoming a Chartered Engineer (CEng).Future Careers: Upon graduation, students have a wide range of career paths to choose from. They may work as structural engineers, architectural engineers, construction managers, or building services engineers in either the public or private sector.
