The Undergraduate Structural Engineering course at Heriot-Watt University offers comprehensive study in structural, geotechnical, water and environmental engineering, materials and sustainability. This course also offers specialized modules in the principals of engineering and other related industries. Course Content: The course offers various topics such as civil engineering, construction, mathematics, structural mechanics, engineering geology, fluid Mechanics, among others. The course runs for four years with full time classes. In year 1, the modules build the foundation on civil engineering principles, year 2 offers more indepth study on building, designing, and maintaining environment. Year 3 and 4 offers more specialized programs in structural engineering, environmental engineering and design project work. Key Modules: Key study modules include Structural Mechanics, Engineering Geology, Design of Structures, Engineering Hydrology, and Structural Timber & Masonry, among others. Accreditations: The course is accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), the Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE) and the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer and partly meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer. Future Careers: After completion of the course, you’ll be prepared for a career as a professional engineer in the civil, structural, or related industries.
