The Biomedical Science with Placement Year course offered by Ulster University is a full-time undergraduate programme. This course provides a perfect balance of theory and laboratory work to equip students with knowledge and understanding of the theory and practice of Biomedical Science, with specialisation options in areas such as clinical chemistry, cellular pathology, medical microbiology and haematology. Course Content: The course employs a mix of approaches including case-based learning, practical lab work, group tutorials, online activities, and research projects. It starts with introduction to cellular pathology, clinical biochemistry, medical microbiology, and haematology, gradually moving towards more specialised topics in biomedical sciences. Key Modules: Some of the key modules included in the course are 'Cellular Pathology', 'Clinical Biochemistry', 'Medical Microbiology', 'Haematology with Transfusion and Transplantation Science', 'Biomedical Professional Practice', and a 'Research project in Biomedical Science'.Accreditations: The course is professionally accredited by the Royal Society of Biology and the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS). Future Careers: Graduates from this course often find employment in hospitals (NHS and private), health protection agencies, research institutions, pharmaceutical companies, and other related industries. They are eligible to apply for Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration, to practice as Biomedical Scientists. For more information on this course, please visit the official course page here.
