The English course at Ulster University is a full-time, three-year program that provides students with the opportunity to study literature written in English from the Anglo-Saxon period to the present day. The course aims to deepen students' understanding of literary traditions and to enable them to engage with current intellectual and artistic developments. Course Content: The content of this course is split into yearly modules which include sections of dedicated reading, critical approaches, and independent study. In the first year, the focus is on the fundamentals of literature, in the second year, students explore periods and movements, while the third year provides an opportunity for independent study and specialization.Key Modules: The key modules of this course comprise Industry, Cultural and Creative Contexts, Reading, Theory and Criticism, Early Modern Literature 1 and 2, Literature of the Long Nineteenth Century, Twentieth-century Irish Writing, Contemporary American Fiction, Contemporary Poetry, and others.Future Careers: The skills developed throughout the duration of the English course – independent thinking, articulate communication, effective writing and persuasive argument – are recognized by employers and are, therefore, useful for a wide range of careers.
