BA (Hons) English Language

The English Language BA Single Honours degree offered by De Montfort University (DMU) is designed to let students explore and understand the English language in depth. The program provides the opportunity to study a wide range of topics related to English language and its uses in various contexts. It also offers the flexibility to explore specific interests.Course Content: The program covers core aspects of English language like phonetics and phonology, language in society, child language acquisition and research methods. Students also have the choice to tailor their studies to their interests in optional modules. To enhance learning, there are also opportunities to engage in practical applications such as creating a documentary film and taking part in a British Sign Language course.Key Modules: Key modules include English Sounds and Structures, Language and Society, Psycholinguistics and Researching Language and Discourse to name a few. Optional modules allow focused study in areas like World Englishes, Language and Gender, Language and the Mind, Language and Media, and Language and Power.Accreditations: Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language from De Montfort University.Future Careers: Past graduates of this programme have found careers in fields such as teaching, marketing, human resources, journalism, public relations, speech therapy, and language technology.
